Directions
Lujeri Cottage is situated at Cape Maclear next door to Danforth Yachting. Take the Zomba Rd. and head for Monkey Bay via Mangochi. The journey should take 3 to 3.5 Hrs. depending on the condition of the road. Before you get to Monkey Bay you turn left to Cape Maclear, at the Corner Shop, this is 15klm dirt which should take about half an hour.
If you are coming from Lilongwe, take the Salima Rd and you turn right at the Balaka Rd. Turn left to Monkey Bay at Golomoti which is approx. 70 to 80 Km. from the Junction. This is currently 60 Km. stretch of good dirt road. It will bring you out at a T junction, turn left and 5 klm. down the road is the Cape Maclear turn off.
For those coming from Limbe , Blantyre, the Golomoti Cape Maclear route is currently our preferred option, it cuts out the chaos of Zomba Rd. and the bad surface of the Lake Rd. The option is yours.
Cottage:
We have power at the cottage, but we have a standby engine in case of extended power cuts, this should be used only to keep fridges and freezers cold and is switched off at 10.00 pm in the evening. The fridge and freezer are minus 40's so they have a holdover capacity.
The Cottage sleeps 9 people, it has 4 Bedrooms, 2 with bathrooms on suite and 2 rooms sharing a bathroom each with their own entrance.
The cottage is fully equipped with all the basic needs, it has a large deep freeze and fridge and a gas stove.
The linen is supplied, blankets, pillows, sheets, towels and mozie nets. Please we ask if you can bring your own swimming towels, bath towels are supplied.
The Cottage is self catering so please bring all your own groceries including T/paper soap and dish wash plus your mozie sprays and coils.
We spray the cottage inside and out on a regular basis for Mosquitoes. Please do not put coils into rooms as they leave a permanent smell in all the furnishings.
The rooms all have fans in them and the bathrooms have showers no baths. The hot water system is a solar heater which holds 190 lts. This enables you all to have a hot shower in the evening if the cottage is full, those of you who shower in the morning will have to wait for the tank to be filled and reheated by the sun, unless hot water remains in the insulated tank.
Drinks:
We hold a drinks float of 8 cases which split as follows:
3 Beer, 2 cokes, 1 sprite, 1 soda, 1 tonic, 2 cases of water.
You may use these but they must be replaced. We can only exchange full cases with the truck and individual bottles must be done in the village, at village prices. Herbert has a price list, please be sure to check all the drinks on arrival to make sure the cases are full before you start and make sure you check them at the end to be certain that you are happy with the closing stock. We will leave stock forms to be filled out, so please complete and sign them and note down the amount of money that was left for the replacements. We do this to make sure that the system works correctly, and once again it is for your own protection.
Staff:
We have 4 Staff at the cottage they are The Cook Matewe, maid Juliet, gardener, boat boy, and house worker Herbert, watchman Wadson who also sweeps and cleans your beach every evening. The staff are all very good people and will take good care of you.
Barbeque:
We have a Barbeque facility but you are requested to bring your own charcoal and firewood please. I think you are able to purchase firewood in the Village at Cape Maclear.
Vendors:
We ask you please to not purchase goods from vendors on our Beach and request that you go in to the Village to do this, where a greater array of goods are available. This is done for security reasons and we have your interest at heart. Please do not leave your personal items lying around on the beach if you are not there. All your money and Valuables should be locked in your car then no one is tempted. For the record we have had no internal theft problems but let us rather be safe than sorry.
